USBGF Rules - Valid roll issue

I don't see how Ken is "degrading himself" by pointing out the dice touch your hand when you shake them, and the new rules say the dice shall not touch the roller's hand "during this process". Yes, all experienced tournament players will know that shaking up and down is very common and often preferred. Drawing on that experience, the reasonable interpretation for "During this process" is just the second half of the process -- where the dice are rolled out.
But many rule sets try to be comprehensive and assume some fraction of the target audience will be genuine novices. It's not hard to imagine a player that learned online introducing the game to a friend over a real board. I think that demographic, equipped with these rules, is likely to conclude that letting the dice touch your fingers while shaking is unacceptable. It's not much of a practical issue since that group may not seek out "USBGF Tournament Rules", and conducting a backgammon tournament without ever having seen one or played in one is very unlikely. However, I think the language could be improved for the sake of clarity and for the benefit of new players, even if some experienced players find the argument silly.
