Hi Phil,

You've proposed this before. The idea certainly has merit, but my experiences here on the ABT tour is that TIME is often the critical factor. In many cases more directors are trying to cram in an extra side event into an already busy weekend schedule.

Why? 1) They need the extra couple hundred bucks rake to compensate them for the large time and effort expenditure to run a T. 2) Players want to keep playing BG. 3) There's recently been added USBGF $$ to these quickies.

I feel that the added time will simply result in schedule conflicts and too many late nights. Currently lets say you and I are tied at 2 away. One of us will cube and we'll play DMP and almost certainly with a clock the match will be over in 15 minutes if not sooner.

But if there's no cube use after 2a2a then the match could go 3 games all played to the end and take 45 minutes. To me this is unacceptable. Of course it could take 45 minutes anyhow if no one cubes in the first game but that is really rare.

A few years back, I waited 45 minutes for a 2 pt quickie to finish and then had to play my conso match starting at 1:25 am! In the quickie, no one cubed for a few turns and then player A rolled a joker and then tried to G player B who saved on the last roll. The next two games were also long and complex and player A barely saved the G in the Crawford game etc.

That experience prompted me to post here that it is time to abolish 2 pt match events and make them 1 pt matches instead.
