Thanks guys - you are correct and they were really helpful explanations.

I did consider making the bar as well but I think I was completely blinded by the mantra "always make the 5-point". So I was looking for a play that could incorporate that - a huge error 13/10 8/5(3) Eq.: +0.067 (-0.192)

I also wasn't keen on making the 3 point this early, thinking it was too far advanced and would leave the two gaps on the 4 and 5. It just felt a bit 'ugly' so I disregarded it.

Now I can see that I should have given more weight to the race and my resulting structure. As well as consolidating, your play also unstacks the six and duplicates hitting 3's for my un-protectable blots.

Thinking a bit more about it, I would make the 3 with an opening 5-3 with no qualms, so why turn my nose up at it now? The spellbinding allure of the 5-point ;)

I guess my lessons for today are 'don't be blinded by rules of thumb' and 'making the 3 is a bit more important than you think'.

Cheers!

P.S. Stick, thanks for raising the point - I hope imgur will be around for a long while! I mainly use GNU because XG takes a lot more seconds more per move on my middling i7. I hope it's more useful in future if I also include the GNUBG ID which can be copy/pasted into both programs.
