Stick, I chose the term "experts" deliberately -- players like you and those you list I would characterize as "World Class" or "Giants". From various ranking rubrics and general parlance, I would have expected you almost to take offense at being termed a mere 'Expert' -- which I'd think takes in players at maybe the 5-7 PR level?

The USBGF $1000 adds a whopping 46% to the entry-fee pool of (128*20) * .85 = $2176. While superstars may find this to be petty cash, and even to be somewhat beneath their dignity (I mean that genuinely -- it would seem a little petty for a Mochy to be going after this event in earnest, though it would be a thrill for many intermediates to get to play a competitive game against him) -- there are plenty of 'Expert' players for whom this is a reasonable and smart event to participate in.

My point is just that Barry is right that this is not a very equity-friendly event for beginners - and that re-buys are part of what makes that so.
