Ping pong

My point was simply that I don't think there's necessarily anything derogatory or disrespectful about the term "ping pong" since that's the term that a vast number of professional players use (albeit not in English, but 乒乓 is approximately pronounced "bing bahng" and certainly derives from the English "ping pong"). Your comparison with Switzerland and tennis is not very convincing because ping pong is informally regarded as the national sport of China, and I don't know of any other country that would think of it as their national sport.

There's a second reason why I think that insisting on "table tennis" is somewhat misplaced snobbery, which is that the term "table tennis" came into wide currency only because the previous common name "ping pong" got trademarked and the lawyers bullied the associations into using "table tennis."

By the way, there's a distinction between "in China they call it" and "Chinese people call it" because in Taiwan they use 桌球 ("table ball" or table tennis if you prefer).

I can't even begin to guess where you got 名短语 from. That means "noun phrase".
