If it's unfair to top players to risk getting a tough opponent because of chance, then it's equally unfair to make them risk bad rolls because of chance. Seeding players makes as little sense as letting them re-roll dice they don't like.

Yes, as Phil says they travel a long way to get to tournaments. Just like everyone else. It's not uncommon for two players from a local club to play each other at a major tournament. So what?

Seeded tournaments are a bad idea. I don't see why anyone would want to win an event that way.
