Top seeds

The world works in this way, audience, organizers, sponsors would like to see the big names in the finals. In Gibraltar the streamed matches in the first rounds were chosen by organizers based on their knowledge of the players, often were not from the first boards. Even in the other disciplines it happens sometimes but in backgammon, yes, I think it happens too often to have outsiders in the finals if we want to promote it as a skill game.
Ranking and top seeds can help a lot in my opinion for this purpose, in Europe we have many tournaments with added money so there it could be tried in my opinion in the future, we are way too far to have a full cover prizes by sponsors only, maybe some private tournaments. Having a bye is a big advantage for the lucky players, too much in my opinion because in the second round often it happens to play against an opponent that has had one as well, maybe is a begginer. I know is hard to convince every backgammon player to accept to give this very small advantage to who spent a lot of time to study well the game, as I pointed out in chess is common. I really don't like the thought, as is now, when going to a tournament to hope to have a bye and all the strong players to be on the other side of the sheet. Other systems not based on direct elimination has some problems as well.
