In Response To: Why go to Cleveland? (March 23-26) (neilkaz)

Like Neil and others, I strongly prefer clocks. Not just to keep the tournament moving, but I think it makes the game itself more interesting, as time management is an added skill. Also, when there is a clock, I dont feel "under pressure" to play fast out of courtesy to my opponent and the tournament. I can take my time as much as I like as long as I dont use up all my time. And of course, a really slow game is not fun for me or for spectators.

But there are so many good things about the Cleveland tournament that I enjoy it anyway, and because it it well-run, there is not a ridiculous number of side events to conflict with the main event to hold things up (as is the case with many other tournaments), I have never had to wait too long for a match or start too late in this tournament.

Obviously Joe, and several others do not agree with those of us who prefer clocks, and there are some people who only go to tournaments where clocks are not used. You cant please everybody

If everyone who doesnt like a given rule stays away from every tournament that has that rule we wont have anyone at any tournament. So as mich as I prefer clocks and several other rules that are often not applied, I still love the game enough to come anyway. Its not a deal-killer for me, but I do agree with Neil and others strongly. In fact, I would even advocate clocks in chouettes and money games. Take over 1 minute and you lose a point or half-point.
