Thanks for the additional input, Keene, Igor and Neil.

Keene had several good suggestions. The one I am immediately following is to lower my minimum screen size. Even restricting myself to the site with i7-6700HQ chip laptops (Neil's link) and that it must have SSD and at least 15.6" and 1920x1080, there are many options.

My current top choice is just below, for $860, and FWIW it's even touch screen. (It has "no optical drive," not sure if that's important.) Unless somebody tells me there is something clearly lacking with the specs in the next day or so, THIS is the model I will buy.
