Thanks again, Igor and Neil. I mistakenly thought hybrid was a bonus, didn't realize it would slow down performance. That eliminates what was my first choice, as well as #3 and #6 from the list of six also-rans. I cast out #4 due to complaints of the noisy speakers, while #5 seems to offer little or nothing for the extra $157 to $187, except touchscreen (Neil's arch enemy), and I've read enough about smudgy screens now to view it as a questionable plus!

Therefore, I will (happily) buy either #1 or #2 (specs repeated below). While #2 has a slight edge in overall customer reviews (77 at 4.2 stars, versus 129 at 3.8), a reading of the alleged pros and cons make it look to me like a toss-up. Against the mere $30 in price, then, there seem to be these two differences:

.....(a) #1 has the edge of 16GB RAM, versus #2 having 12GB
.....(b) #1 has 1-terabyte HDD that #2 does not have.

I have a question for Igor (or for anyone else that knows the answer): Does the fact that #1 has an HDD automatically make it a hybrid (and therefore slowed)? I don't see #1 billed as a hybrid anywhere in its detailed specs. Indeed, in the summary section (technical details) next to Hard Drive, "256 GB flash_memory_solid_state" is listed, and under "other technical details," next to Hard Drive Interface is "Solid State," suggesting to me that that SSD is the "main" hard drive. I will defer to your judgment in the matter.
