Men v. Women in Mental Games

I remember Bobby Fischer being quoted as saying, "All I want to do, ever, is play chess." I am confident that there are quite a few other chess players of the XY persuasion that would give that a +1. But finding female players who feel that way about chess would be like pulling hen's teeth.
If you are looking for people who pursue one and only one passion single-mindedly for many years, maybe even a lifetime, it does seem they tend to be guys. Many explanations are possible here, and various combinations of them may also be considered.
There are exceptions, of course. Hou Yifan may be a sort of female Bobby Fischer, who does little else besides play chess as far as I know, and like Fischer, has been known to believe in conspiracies and respond with weird and inexplicable self-sabotaging behavior.
Carissa Yip (no, that's not Yep, no relation to Chris!) is 11 and a master, and may become the US's Hou Yifan...or she may quit chess and go into biomedical engineering or fashion design, who knows?
