I would guess that "improvement" in the sense you're talking about will be far less important of a factor than the ability to cope with fatigue and other emotional factors. I would wager that hardly any 4 PR players can play 40 hours/week of backgammon for $1,000/match without getting tired or steamed at some point and dropping to 5 PR or 6 PR or worse. So if you're able to sustain a consistent 3 PR under the same playing conditions then your edge should be greater than what I calculated.
