Well, he trusted you. He was right, although he might not be another time?(!)

Perhaps it's yet another good reason to use a clock? Assuming player on roll was not going to take that long over the decision, they're incentivised to make their decision (rolling the dice if necessary), end their turn, and then watch their opponents clock run down as they faff about away from the table.
