Thanks for the encouragement, mama bear! -- but my whole motivation in playing out this position is to isolate salient themes in defending against these back game positions that can guide my future play. My current mental construct of how to play this kind of position suggests that it would be really wrong to hit that checker, and if it's solidly right (.036 is meaningful if not huge) then what I have here is a good learning opportunity.

For instance, as well as thinking that it would be better to have him crash with 8 checkers than 7, it seems to me that hitting him is going to give him another spare which will only make it harder to evict him from the 3 or 2 point with the kind of point clearance you suggest.
