Non-doublet Replies: Rules for beginners

Hi Nack,
[Eliminating plays between 0.06 and 0.07, keeping those between 0.05 and 0.06]
I do understand that based on roots of the published data this is a blurry and arbitrary line, which I draw deliberately, since I think I can safely assume that beginners/intermediates will not care.
> I've been assuming the library is the set of 27 openers I listed. Or
: perhaps 29 with 62R and 62$, which shouldn't change anythingSince the idea is to reuse the openers for the non-hitting reply rolls, it makes sense to at least include 62R in this library (against 61P). From a cursory check it seems, though, that neither 62$ nor 43U cause any trouble > 0.06 for my set of rules.
> You are right that spelling out the phrases is easier to understand,
: but I don't think it's easier to recall.Depends. I believe that a short string of Nactation may be more difficult to memorize (because it is compressed information), especially for a beginner.
> hit above makeable point
Good suggestion.
> Hit above the 3pt. Hit on the 3pt with a 3.
Good.
> "do not hit 8/3*" is not only stronger but also more efficient.
But probably less easy to memorize.
> In 2a, why refer to "two outer boards"?
Language consistency. I was flirting with "left" and "right", because visualizing helps memorizing. Hit on the left, move on the right, and vice versa. But this is not precise enough for beginners.
> I'm not sure where you're drawing the line with Nactation.
You raise a couple of good points. To refer to the first section of your tutorial is probably a good idea.
> If you want the reader to confine himself to the opening library I
: think you should state "if blocked, use a move from the opening
: library."Yes, that is much clearer.
> about 61P-65D for which I'll add D at the end
That was clear.
Regarding the order, I understand your points, but think beginners are turned off by rules starting with exceptions. I am fine if they skip them completely first, since they will still lose no more than 0.0806.
> You did a terrific job on the pointing / non-pointing and hitting /
: non-hitting structure. Thanks, and I think it will be hugely helpful for memorizing. Which is why I am willing to sacrifice a tiny amount of equity for simplicity.
> one advantage "H" has over hit. Hit on highest point is already
: subsumed in the definitionGood point. But beginners will usually hit instinctively this way.
> D/x1$ is a problem
Yes. D-21$, D-41$, D-51$ would be a listing solution, "P, 65R, 43Z, S ($ after D)" a more principled one (but not precise enough). Again the restriction to the opening library might help.
> put 31P 61P at the top of the chain, which kills several birds with
: one stone. But also at least part of the nice structure ...
I think I will factor in your slight enhancement requests, but otherwise leave the general outline as is. Unfortunately I had no time until now to test your doublet suggestions. Thanks so much anyway.
Best regards
Axel
