The internal code is important. Some players may enter a simple code like 0000 or 1234 each time. If you meet up against more than one such player, and you don't change your own code each time, you could end up getting a repeated sequence of rolls. The internal code mixes things up. (Maybe it could be based on the date and time so there is no chance of it being repeated.)
It took me a while to process your statement as I know that it's bad practice to create a seed by using the date and time. But we're not creating a seed here, just an offset. Then again, it does aid a potential hacker to know roughly what the offset is.
What if I create a list of the previous, say, 100 offsets, and if the newly generated offset matches one of these (or is close to it), I'll generate another offset between 1 and 5 million.
How does that sound?
