Blitz Balance

I'll be keeping Timothy's heuristic in mind in the future also. That said (here, anyway), I don't think it's too tough to figure out what to do if you know you should be blitzing. The key -- considering O's board and the race -- is to recognize that blitzing is the right game plan.
Before I took a long break from BG, I was playing a lot of 1pt matches. One thing I figured out is that blitzing isn't just good for gammons; it's often the best play to win the game (as it is here). I learned that leaving White free to anchor on the 1pt can be costly down the road, as he can sit back and wait for a shot and grab the initiative. Given that, 5/1* jumped out at me as a strong possibility. I can't say for sure that I'd have made the play over the board (as soon as I read that Albert had made an error, I figured he didn't hit), but it was certainly my reflex play. It (still) feels strange (to me, anyway) to blitz when I am ahead in the race (especially when gammons don't count), but the first step in making the right play is to consider the right play, and I'm spotting these things more than I used to.
