Blitz Balance

I think Igor/David's heuristic of 11 checkers applies mostly to a loose hit on a deep point (the ace point being of course the deepest possible point), because such a hit tends to be highly committal. A loose hit on the 5pt, 4pt, or even 3pt is less committal and generally doesn't need as many as 11 checkers in the zone to justify it, especially if the opponent's structure is weak and/or you have already done something (like make the ace point) which has committed you to a blitz.
By the way, I did go ahead in ask XG about what to do in Albert's position if you play 8/6 5/1*, and then your opponent enters a single checker with bar/24*, and then you roll 52. The clear winner is bar/18, eschewing the committal hit on the ace point.
