Play backgammon like a poker stud (or stud poker:)

I skip threads about position/cube discussions, tourney results, etc. and like to read "unusual" stuff like "Using a pot instead of the cube in money games".

After reading it, I remembered that the same subject was talked about many times over and eons ago in RGB. And guess what? Repeated suggestions to play backgammon like poker was made by none other than Murat, as far back as fifteen plus years ago!

Just Google RGB with keywords "poker" and "MK" (Murat's initials that he has always used to sign his posts with).

This is the earliest from 2002. Here is an excerpt:

"Poker players, errr..., should I have said "poker gamblers", don't "play with a "doubling" cube; which means they are not limited to "only doubling the stakes. They can raise the stakes by whatever "amount they desire...

"Now, you all would certainly remember that not too long ago I had "suggested right here in this group, a variation of backgammon "that I had called Murat-gammon in which players could raise the "stakes by any number up to twice the current value of the "cube"...

"....If the ideal is to "improve" the game by making more complex "and by adding "greater levels of skill requirement", then what "was is the problem with my suggestion...?

"....If they don't like "Murat-gammon" they can call it "Kalin-gammon"... "But that may not work either since it kind of sounds like "Klingons", "(who are the arch-enemies of the "Moron"s)...

If you have time to blow, you may want to read the entire thread.

Here he says: ".... Many times I proposed "Murat-gammon" where #@&! gamblers could raise the value of the cube more like raising the stakes in poker..... but #@&! backgammon gamblers can not handle such a complex betting skill...!!".

Read the entire thread for more.

In December 2014, he starts his own thread "How to make BG a more popular gambling game?"

And again, he underlines how boring it is to gamble using a doubling cube instead of raising the stakes poker style. "If backgammon was played like poker, would we even see cowboys play backgammon in western movies?" is what Murat was asking... :)

If you read the rest of the thread, you can see his humor peaking at "I see your "beaver" and I raise it by a "rooster" (not to say by a "cock")"... :))

And finally, in March 2015, he posts an article titled "Digital Cube - put an end to cubeful backgammon gambling misery".

This is a "must read" for all of you to see how Murat is an ununderstood kind of a backgammon genius, ahead of his time and most certainly ahead of all of you petty backgammon gamblers pretending to be of poker/chess caliber here!

I know it would be painful for you all to admit it but it's just as well that you all feel it quietly deep inside...
