In response to Timothy Chow's request to see Wisecarver (cube provocation) positions with a substantial difference in the roller's equity where the correct play results in a correct redouble and the wrong play does not, Tom Keith gave two positions
http://www.bgonline.org/forums/webbbs_config.pl?read=201103
The first position is easy to explain
White is Player 2
score: 0
pip: 7Unlimited Game
Jacoby Beaverpip: 14
score: 0
Blue is Player 1XGID=---A-AA-------------a--a--:1:-1:1:64:0:0:3:0:10 Blue to play 64
1. XG Roller++ 6/Off 5/1 eq: -0.111
Player:
Opponent:44.62% (G:0.00% B:0.00%)
55.38% (G:0.00% B:0.00%)2. XG Roller++ 6/2 5/Off eq: -0.344 (-0.233)
Player:
Opponent:32.89% (G:0.00% B:0.00%)
67.11% (G:0.00% B:0.00%)eXtreme Gammon Version: 2.19.208.pre-release
The wrong play results in one of the five Jacoby Paradox positions where White does not redouble to 4 because that would give Blue a strong redouble to 8 when White misses.
Apart from positions which can be analysed via the Jacoby Paradox, it is very very difficult to analyse a cube provocation position even with very few checkers on the board.
