Check the position during the break

The short answer is that any discussion or review that is potentially relevant to the match is not allowed during breaks in a match.
The relevant section of the rule is:
Players may not use aids of any type while a match is in progress, including breaks, except to keep score. Use of personal electronic devices is restricted to recording or clocking the match, scorekeeping, noise cancelling, and music-listening purposes.
A friend reviewing a picture of a position from a match during break for that match can be reasonably considered a spectator of that match. They are therefore similarly bound by the following not to say anything if you can hear it:
Spectators should remain silent during a match...
Of course we all know that people want to talk during the dinner break, or even after a match is suspended at night to resume in the morning. And it is certainly not reasonable to expect anyone at a backgammon tournament filled with backgammon players to go for hours without talking to anyone or having no contact with a backgammon related topic. So the guidance here is not to do anything that will give anyone observing a reason to believe your still in-progress match might benefit from your actions.
Players should ... avoid the appearance of impropriety ...
