In Response To: "validly claim" is undefined. (Tom Keith)

The rules aren't anticipating. It happened. The directors didn't like being forced to decide the match on time in such a situation. And neither did the players. As I recall, the time crunch arose due to not hitting the clock during a close-out, but the reason doesn't much matter. The player lost on time in a gin position that should have won the match.
