Request to restore time

It would depend on the nature of the clock irregularity. But here are some things a director might consider:

  1. Is there general agreement that there was a problem?

Do both players agree that the clock was running when it should not have been? Do they roughly agree on the amount of time that was lost? Are there spectators who can confirm?

  2. Is the claim significant?

"My hand slipped on the plunger and I lost 2 seconds" is not a significant event. It wouldn't be practical to restore time for such minor clock irregularities.

"We took a break and when we got back we noticed that the clock was running. We were away at least 3 minutes." That would be a significant claim.

  3. Is the claim timely?

If a player runs into time trouble in Game 14 and tells Director, "I think the clock ran for 30 extra seconds at the end of Game 1," that wouldn't be timely. If you want your time back, you should ask for it as soon as you realize the error.
