Can one cube by looking at it?

In Response To: False Cube Action (Bob Koca)

I remember one time, long ago, I looked at the cube to verify it was in the middle and my opponent dropped! "Yes yes yes, OK, pass." I had not made any move towards the cube yet, and my position was better, but not really threatening, and a clear no cube in my opinion. Can one accept the passing of "an un-turned but looked at" cube (as I did)?
