Not so amazing given the situation

In Response To: World Championship in Backgammon/Amazing Non - Reaction (Seth)

I congratulated Didier immediately after the match, and I also sat down with him for a few minutes before the match. I also congratulated his coach and good friend who has worked with him the past few years, as he is a very fine gentleman in Nice who is a good friend of mine (and I helped him help Didier the past couple of years).

Sunday night while having a late snack with Akiko and MCG, we stopped and congratulated Didier and I showed him a copy of the XG (which I had copied on my iPhone) and we talked briefly about how he played well under such great pressure and we all told him we were very happy for him.

Of course I was rooting for Petko because he is an American, a friend, and a great guy, but I careful not to sound at all biased while doing the commentary on the match. I did own 1/4th of Petko's side pool, but we had already won that as Didier was not in the side pool. (I even made a couple of bets on Petko to beat Didier twice and I got 2 to 1 odds, which I think is about right.)

I think that posting congratulations to Didier here on BGOnline is a nice thing to do, but I doubt seriously that he will ever see it or know it. If Didier was a poster on BGOnline that would be a different story.
