Do we out-think ourselves sometimes?

I saw this position in a Chicago Open match and it took me completely by surprise.

Blue -- whom I know well, like a lot, and have tremendous respect for -- was the much superior player but studied this for a good five minutes before rolling without cubing.

I have to think he let the fact that he was the much superior player adversely impact his decision making. I forgot to ask him later in the weekend what he was thinking.
