The Board of Governors is dead, has never served any role, was Rod's idea in 2009 of how to attach a bunch of reputable names to the organization to make it credible. It appears nowhere in the USBGF by-laws. And certainly, since the Board of Directors has been elected, it serves no representative governing purpose, being nothing more than a bunch of names picked in 2009. Yeah, it should be removed from the website. A lot of work is needed on the website - obviously. You can start by rounding up some volunteers who can help improve it.

So again - instead of wondering why decisions are being made by a group of 13 respected individuals that are elected to the Board by the members to make these decisions, and complaining that they are bad decisions and that priorities are wrong - why not put your name on the ballot and get elected and bring your ideas and tell us all up front why these decisions shouldn't be made and what alternative you recommend. Or maybe you might find that after hearing all the information and all the debate that you come to support an approach you didn't at first? You could chair a committee to work on grass-roots programs to grow the game, or whatever it is you think should be an area of focus. I know that this means doing actual work and taking responsibility for the results. I think you would find that this Board is very open to ideas, seeks consensus and operates rationally. And when we screw up on occasion, we are willing to change the way we do things.

This is not some remote group of suits sitting in Washington or in some corporate board room that you don't know that you are pointing at claiming some evil agenda and serving their own interests. These are your friends, not making a dime from what they do; people who you know well and ought to believe that they are putting in all this time and energy because they want what's best for backgammon. So join us in doing this work.

So what will it be? Help steer the ship in the right direction, or remain there in the distance launching torpedoes?
