does anyone have the XG file for the 2015 Texas Mochy vs Loero match?--and what about BMAB?

In Response To: does anyone have the XG file for the 2015 Texas Mochy vs Loero match? (Grant Hoffman)

I suspect Mochy has it. I was sitting next to the table when they played, as I played the winner to get to the finals of the tournament.

As I recall, both players had little time on their clock and Loero had a significant lead in the score. Mochy opened with a 6-1 and DOUBLE SLOTTED! At one point I did see the xg file and remember that Mochy played at around 21 PR that game...his whole goal trying to get Loero to time out.

Loero did not time out and won the match, but it was fun and exciting to watch...it was like watching Jim Pasko play Bob Wachtel in the Masters in LA where Jim played like that from the start just because he finds it fun.

Would Mochy have won playing a "normal" game? Who knows? But you sure have to give him credit for being creative and giving this a try.

If you get a copy of the match, please send it to me as well.

By the way, what would Mochy have done if his match would have counted toward his BMAB standings? He certainly would not have been able to play this way, and that raises questions about live tournament matches being counted for BMAB.

My personal feelings are that we should not count those matches for BMAB but only results from BMAB competitions, exactly for this reason. We want to allow players to change their plays and cube decisions to fit the opponent and situation in order for them to have some room for "creativity" and also, to live up to the ideal of playing to win, which is not always the same as playing the lowest PR.

Yes, there are some who disagree with that premise--who say if you play for the best PR you are doing your best to win. I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but I am pretty sure it has been mathematically proven that a far better player should do some things differently against an inferior player, and visa versa. And I am not about to say that Mochy did the wrong thing against Loero just because it didn't work...it probably was his best chance to win the match.

Just one more example: Mochy will often slot with an opening 4-1 knowing it is not the top play because he feels that gives him an advantage against an inferior player, (and I often slot with a 4-1 just to make my opponent think that I think he is an inferior player...in fact, I did it against Mochy the game after he did it against me!)
