In Response To: Any open player should relish the chance to compete and win under any rules options (Bill Finneran)

I have never been to a tournament where all the rules and conditions were to my liking.

I have never been to a tournament where I didnt enjoy myself.

I will never stop trying to change rules and policies I think are bad for the game.

I have yet to skip a tournament because of a specific rule I didnt like.

I think some players say they will boycot a tournament in order to pursuade people to do things their way, and then if they dont get their way they are forced to stay in order to keep their word. Drawing lines in the sand because of clocks, headphones, legal moves, dice on checkers etc is something people are certainly free to do if that is preference.

But Since it is not possible to please everyone and there are people who feel just as strongly the other way, I don't think it is possible to please people on both sides who draw those lines in the sand, so we must realize it is THEM who cause and create the greatest divisions and disconnects by virtue of their intractability and we simply must live with the fact that we will lose some of those people.

Not possible to please everybody--especially those who will not compromise and obviously put their own personal preferences above the majority rule. If you love the game enough and you have to "suffer" with a couple of rules you dont like, tough shit. There is no "perfect world" where everything is done the way you like it.

If you want to vote with your feet, or threaten to, that gives me, and others, good reason to discount your opinion. Be reasonable and willing to compromise and respect that others disagree and are entitled to disagree, and dont blackmail and threaten us with boycots, and I will value your opinion. And if it ends up you personally dont want to play in a tournament without clocks, or where you can't wear your headphones, or where they wont let you use your baffle box, that's your perogative, but dont hurt the tournament or the game by trying to influence others to boycott as well.
