Maybe this works in your chouette, but it is a bad rule in general. Imagine this scenario: You make an illegal play and I don't notice at first so I go ahead and roll the dice. Two things might happen:
(a) I get a great, easy to play roll. I make my play without much thought and the game goes on.
(b) I get a bad, really hard-to-play roll. I stew and stew over how the play it, quickly using up my reserve time. As I mull over the bleak possibilities I notice that your blot on the 16-point should be on the 15-point. Suddenly my bad roll has turned into a good roll!
Even though I am completely honest and have no intention of selectively noticing errors to my own benefit, that's exactly what happened in situation (b) above. It's better to correct illegal plays only if they are noticed before the opponent rolls.
