Touching an offered cube

No! To take a double you should pick up the cube and place it on your own side of the board. But if you want to pass a double, you shouldn't touch the cube at all. Rather, you should:

  1. Stop the game clock.
  2. Say "I pass."
  3. Confirm the value of the game with your opponent (which is easy because the offered cube hasn't been touched).
  4. Write down the new match score.
  5. Set up for the next game. (Now you can touch the cube.)

Touching the cube when you intend to pass is a bad idea that can only lead to problems.
