These positions are about bringing home a racing advantage.

In the first position the racing lead is small so we need to cater for the race the best way possible. Hence, avoid dumping checkers deep in the home board.

In the 2nd position the race lead is almost gin so we can afford to dump checkers deep without destroying the race while maximising the number of clearing numbers. In position 2 white can wait forever which is not necessarily the case in position 1. This effectively means that blue has less rolls to clear and by making the 3P we keep the 11P which increases the number of clearing rolls with 42 and 52.

I would probably just clear 11 in both positions in real life but if I must make the 3P in one of the positions, then I will make it in position 2.
