By returning to it daily for at least 15 minutes or more, you send a message to your brain that this is important and it enters some sort of easily accessible memory storage.
That's a really interesting and useful concept, Scotty! The outline of a training program suggests itself where I quiz myself on a new 3rd-roll 'problem set' individually until I'm getting them say 90% correct, and when I hit that mark, start mixing the positions from multiple complexes for ongoing reinforcement. I'm thinking I can maybe meaningfully acquire 2 sets a month = firming up maybe 1000 positions per year + a halo effect where you play other early-game positions better, too.
And there's nothing more satisfying than having something you've just studied show up over the board -- there's that little shock of recognition followed by "Holy smokes! I actually know what I'm doing!" That's good for the brain too.
