I've seen these plays before, but they're rare. In the Michigan State v Indiana game yesterday, with 1:49 left on the clock and trailing by 1 point, Indiana's defense let MSU run the ball 18 yards into the end zone on purpose, so that they could be down 8 points with the ball and time on the clock.
