I don't believe that starting at 100% engagement is a meaningful number, nor the numbers in close proximity.

I would think it would be more relevant to calculate engagement at the END of the year from THAT player count for the first year, and then start each month of a new year from that value.

We would need a way to shed the once-and-never-again players by expiring them after a year? Maybe the easiest would be to remove them at the new year point if they didn't come during the previous year.

Any of these methods seem to make a more meaningful engagement metric than starting at 100% every year.
