Local Club Attendance -- an Engagement Index?

The only numbers that count are total attendance over some defined period of time, one year or more at least. At NOVA we have a weekly tournament with 15 or so years of data with several different venues as well as the Beltway club with bi-monthly tourneys and two other recent startups. I think the most important factors are:
1) Venue - can't discount how important a good space and good food are to attendance. 2) Players welcoming new comers - a good mix of open players, intermediate and beginners is helpful. And no one trying to lure newbies into side action (unless they are looking for that). We have great players in low stakes chouettes to help train those interested. 3) Great TD's in the recently retired Barry Silliman for the beltway club and Frank Raposa for the NOVA club. Both have friendly, calm demeanor which helps welcome players to each of their tourneys. Larry Brown has big shoes to fill replacing Barry. 4) Reinforce with a well run well attended ABT event (like the Cherry Blossom). That seems to energize local club attendance.
Both our main DC area local clubs have had record attendance this year. Unfortunately, both clubs are having venue transitions at about the same time so we may see impacts on 2018 attendance.
