I use XG the majority of the time.

I do find GnuBG useful for the following:

1) For post mortem on a position you get an instant count of return shots when you are experimenting with different moves. Maybe trying to understand why move A is better than move B. A count of all possible return shots is given including the silly ones. However it is very useful for comparing return shots move A vs move B. Of course, you would count them the hard way OtB but this saves time when you are ploughing through a number of positions.

2) GnuBG is easy to very quickly fire up with an XGID loaded from a spreadsheet (or perhaps other applications as well) using code (about 2 seconds) I have a spreadsheet randomly serving me positions that I have listed and analyzed with XG. If I choose the correct move then the position is less likely to be served up in the future. Weights are assigned to each position according to my quiz performance. Probably could do similar with XG but it takes 10 times as long to fire up. Speed of loading makes Gnu the clear winner for this sort of thing.

In case anybody reading this is not aware, GnuBG reads and loads XGIDs and likewise XG with GnubgIDs.
