With XG you can play from a variety of levels and also see a variety of opening moves.

I tested it. I put in an opening 43 at GG and at beginner level xg split instead of the proper two down.

Another thing you can do is setup a position, make the "unusual" opening move you are not used to seeing, and then "play from here."

Sly used to tell me that at many scores with a 43 he would bring two up from the 24 primarily because most players don't know the responses. I have found that most players today do make the right responses.
