Hypotheisis - 5-point holding game cube action

The latest Fish chouette position prompted me to form the following hypothesis:
"In a five-point holding game, it is usually correct to cube once it's a cash based on the pip count (i.e. ignoring contact) , and it's usually premature to cube any earlier."
I've played around with that position and the above seems to hold, but I haven't really tested the hypothesis in general. I'm sure I could come up with some examples where it is false (i.e. a bunch of buried checkers) , but for "normal" holding games might it be true?
Comments and counter-examples cheerfully accepted.
