Texas Backgammon Championships

Kudos to Bill Riles and Tara Mendicino for a fantastic Texas Backgammon Championships tournament. It drew 130 entrants with something for everyone from the ProAm to an Ultimate Backgammon Package for newcomers. Kudos to the winners including Mark Antranikian who won the Championship event, Steve Sax who won the Malcolm Davis Masters Jackpot, Boris Dekhtyar who won the Alamo Classic Limited Jackpot, Al Hodis who won the Speedgammon event, Joe Russell and Gus Contos who won the ProAm, Don Marek who won the Advanced division, and Allen Michie who won the Limited division. Julius High manned a backgammon learning table for the 20 Novice entrants. Joe Sylvester and Prince Alexis Obolensky were inducted into the American Backgammon Hall of Fame at the USBGF Awards Dinner; Patti Rubin and Perry Gartner received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Thanks to Tara Mendicino for streaming matches throughout using USBGF state-of-the-art technology and posting brackets online in real-time. The tournament ended with a special exciting Super Bowl party in the Menger Hotel Chairman's Suite! And chouettes went on late into Sunday night in the historic Menger hotel lobby!
