Hope the following helps:

Do you see the task bar and the part of it that says "Ask me anything" (and which apparently is called Cortana)?

If so, type 'editor' in Cortana. As soon as you have typed 'ed' Cortana should suggest a few things, one of them being a desktop app called "Editor", which has a pale blue icon depicting what I think is a paper notepad. Open that app by left-clicking on Cortana's suggestion. A window with an instance of "Editor" should open and an additional icon showing that pale blue notepad appears in the task bar. Now you want to open a second window with another instance of "Editor", which is a bit tricky. Right-click on the icon in the task bar. A pop-up window should appear, where you again see the pale blue notepad plus the descriptive text "Editor". Left-click on that, and a second window with an instance of "Editor" should appear.

In each of these windows, open one of the files that you want to combine. Freely copy and paste between them with ctrl+c and ctrl+v respectively (if you are unsure about that, you can make backup copies of the original files before you do anything else). Save the result, preferably using a new filename. "Editor" uses ".txt" file endings as a standard, which should be ok for XG.
