Is Bacgammon dead?

From where I sit, the game is more alive than it has been in many years, and I see nothing but growth overall, for clubs, tournaments, federations, and in another surprising area.
That surprising area is private clubs, private money games and chouettes, and a lot of big and small and medium money activity and games that are off the radar and off the grid.
There are simply a lot of people playing this game that are not interested in tournament play or organized play of any kind, or on line play, and we do not see or hear about these people. It is only because many of these people have come to our group for lessons and because, in my travels, I keep finding games and groups that are "off the grid" that I am aware of this "underground" of backgammon.
There also seems to be more and more poker players and people who left the game for poker either coming back partially or full time.
And of course, all over the world there is Tavla and other forms of the game we never hear about on this forum.
Bottom line, I see more growth and growth potential now than I have in the last 40 years.
