Can you give a source for the quote from Messina. Some teams happen to substiute that way but I strongly doubt there is any such agreement. Look at the Warriors from 16-17 season (the last one for which full data is available). In the second quarter they almost alway have Curry or Thompson on the floor. For the Cavaliers that season they almost always had Lebron starting the second quarter with the other reserves and if he got a dew minutes rest in the 2nd quarter the other starters were back in.
