MAKE THE DAMN CLOCK RULE CUT AND DRY

Drama in Chicago. Imagine that. Victor vs Roberto. Roberto cubes Victor and forgets to hit his clock. Much time runs off. Rory, watching the live streaming, from afar with the commentators, decides to stop the match at the conclusion of the game, and have Tara help determine how much time ran off. He then adds time back on Roberto’s clock (1:07 or 1:17, I forget which).
The USBGF tournament rules on clock (paraphrasing) state that the players have a responsibility to rectify clock errors including when time is running against the wrong opponent. How nice. However 95% of tournament matches are not streamed and thus no such correction could be made available to them. In my opinion, because this rule does not allow for consistent and accurate remedy to the players involved, it needs to be made Cut and Dry. You timeout, you LOSE. If you’re going to play big time tournament backgammon, pull your head out or suffer the consequences.
