The proposal undeniably complicates things. Whether there's a good reason for it may depend on whether you view backgammon as a gambling game. I gather that many backgammon players enjoy making occasional side bets about controversial plays; that is, they like to bet that they made the "correct" play according to the bot. My proposed new scoring system in effect allows you to make such a side bet on a quiz problem whenever you feel your probability of being correct is at least 2/3.

If you're not the kind of person who engages in such side bets, then probably the proposed new scoring system won't appeal to you either.
