Contributions to BGO? Advertisements on BGO?

First, great to see the forum is back online.

I bet that y'all, like I do, get tons of value from the site. Yet this is a "free" forum. Hey, it may be free to us, but not to Stick, who of course deserves immense praise for his efforts (and for paying the site's expenses).

I have suggested in the past we should commit to contributing a yearly voluntary fee to the site. I suspect this is not what Stick expects, yet it could be great for the site. For example, with the added funds, Stick can hire a programmer to improve the forum or the website.

Yes, the contributions would be voluntary, innkeeping with Stick's current philosophy of running the site for free, but to put a little moral pressure on free riders, perhaps the forum can publish a list of contributor names.

Alternatively, the site can host advertisements--maybe an ad image at the bottom of each message--ideally but not necessarily limited to BG. Again, the funds could be used to improve the site or perhaps to reward Stick with a nice vacation each year.

What say you?
