Chouette rotation: How to deal with a captain who has settled his game

Although there are no unique rules for chouettes it might be interesting how other players handle the following situations:

What happens if the (initial) captain settles his game?

(1) If the initial captain pays points to the man in the box or to one of his partners, he shall immediately lose his position in the line – just as if the captain has dropped a double of the man in the box.

(2) If the initial captain receives points from the man in the box, the man in the box will lose his position after the termination of this game, and the captain will become the next man in the box – just as if the box has dropped a double of the captain. The remainder of the game has no influence on the order of the players.

The third case is a little bit tricky:

(3) Suppose the initial captain is paid a few points by one of his partners. The initial captain is now out of the game and the highest ranking of the remaining players (which is not necessarily the player who paid the captain) will take over as acting captain.

If the box wins, the man in the box has no reason to give up his position, since he may declare that deals on the other side of the board are of no concern to him. He has won the game and therefore he shall remain.

If the box loses, the acting captain will claim to become next man in the box, since it is the acting captain who becomes the box, if he wins after the initial captain has dropped out of the game – just as if the initial captain has declined a double from the box.

Should the initial captain, who has sold his game, be captain in the next game?

I do not think so: I think we should not have players waiting longer than necessary. In normal order of rotation, it is impossible that a player is (initial) captain within two consecutive games, since he becomes either the box, if he wins, or he immediately has to go down to the bottom of the queue as soon as he drops out of the game.

How do you handle this situation?
