Counting PUZZLE

UBK: I have seen both arguments used by strong students. But at least one is clearly incorrect. What is wrong?

The first argument is wrong because it is distinguishing one of the students, thus overcounting.

In general, it can be VERY difficult to explain why a particular counting argument is incorrect. I find that even producing computer code to enumerate by directly counting does not convince many people.
