I do not know for sure, but I like remaking the 8pt, even though it violates Magriel's 6-Apart Rule: Don't make points six pips apart on your side of the board. It would be better to own the 9pt than the 8pt here, but you do not have the option of making the 9pt. Take what you can get.

Oppt is anxious to split with 3s, more so than with 2s. Keep the dude on the 15pt and advance your back checker to the 23, triplicating Oppt's 3s: 24/21, 13/10* and 5/2*.
