how commissions are measured

Suppose I offer a service of bringing together buyers and sellers. One day there is someone wishing to buy a backgammon book for $10 and someone wishing to sell that backgammon book for $10. I bring them together and somehow get $.98 for my service (don't worry about who pays it). What % commission have I charged? To me it is 9.8%

Suppose now that you play a backgammon money game for $10 and win a single point. The server keeps $.98 To me this is the same situation as my example above. Backgammon servers say though they are charging 4.9% commission.
